The snake is born under the sign of wisdom. They are highly intelligent and their minds are ever active. They are always planning and always looking for ways in wich he can use his considerable skills. They are deep thinkers.

Many times during their life they will shed one of their famous Snake skins and take up new interests or start a completely different job. They are skillful organisers, have considerable business acumen and is usually lucky in money matters. Most snakes are finacially secure in their later years, provided they do not gamble - the Snake has the distinction of being the worst gambler in the whole Chinese Zodiac.

The Snake is generally calm and placid and prefers quieter things in life. They do not like to be in a frenzied atmosphere and hate being hurried into making quick decisions. The Snake can at times appear solitary. They are quiet and reserved and sometimes has diffculty in communicating with others. They have little time for idle gossip and will certainly not suffer fools gladly. They do not however have a good sense of humour, and this is particularly appreciated in times of crisis.

The Snake is certainly not afraid of hard work and is thorough in all that they do. They are very determined and can occasionally be ruthless in order to achieve their aims. Their confidence, willpower and quick thinking usually ensure success, but should they fail it will often take a long time for them to recover. They cannot bear faliure and they are very bad losers.

It has sometimes been said that the Snake is a late starter and this is mainly because it often takes them a while to find a job with which they are genuinely happy. However, the Snake will usually do well in any position that involves research and writing and where they are given sufficient freedom to develop their own ideas and plans. They make a good teacher, politician, personnel manager and social adviser.

The Snake chooses his friends carefully, and while he keeps a tight control over his finances he can particularly generous to those he likes. They will think nothing of buying expensive gifts or treating their friends or loved ones to the best theatre in town. In return he demands loyalty. The Snake is very possessive and he can get extremely jealous and hurt if they find their trust has been abused.

The affairs of the heart are very important to the Snake and he will often have many romances before he finally settles down. They will find that they are particularly suited to the Ox, Dragon, Rabbit and Rooster. Provided that the Snake is allowed sufficient freedom to pursue their own interests they can also build up a very satisfactory relationship with the Rat, Horse, Sheep, Monkey and Dog, but they should try to steer clear of another Snake as they could very easily become jealous of each other. The Snake will also have difficulty in getting down on with the honest and down-to-earth Pig, and will find the Tiger far too much of a disruptive influence.

The Snake certainly appreciates the finer things in life. They enjoy good food and often take a keen interest in the arts. They also enjoy reading and are drawn to subjects such as philosophy, political thought, religion or the occult.
